Abstract

This article analyses a concept as a unit of mentality and worldview. It discusses the problem of the ability of the concept to describe the picture of the world of an entire people and of each person individually. The article describes the main features of perception of death by the native speakers, based on the analysis of 100 proverbs and sayings, representing the concept of “death”. The research material was selected by random sampling from the English Dictionaries of Proverbs and Sayings. The quantitative analysis of different variants of cognitive interpretation of this concept is also given in this article.
