Abstract

The article presents a study of acoustic parameters of English back vowels by the British, Americans and Canadians in speaking. Given are the results of the instrumental (acoustic) analysis of English stressed back vowel phonemes /uː/, /ʊ/, /ɔː/, /ɔ/, /ɑː/ in spontaneous speech by the native male speakers of English whose pronunciations align
with the orthoepic norms of the British, American and Canadian varieties of English.
