Abstract

The article is devoted to functional peculiarities of abbreviations and shortenings in the English social and political discourse. The research outlines the definition of abbreviation and shortening, studies their types and classifications, analyzes current tendencies of abbreviation process taking into consideration linguistic and cultural aspect.
