THE USE OF YOUTH SLANG IN MODERN GERMAN ELECTRONIC PUBLICATIONS (INCLUDING ONLINE VERSIONS OF WEEKLY NEWSPAPER “DIE ZEIT”)

Abstract

The article is dedicated to studying the use of modern youth slang in German electronic publications, including online versions of weekly newspaper “Die Zeit”. For the first time the article observes the reasons of youth slang usage in modern German press and how it is brought into the newspaper articles. A quantitative analysis is being conducted based on the German-English dictionary of modern German youth language “100% Jugendsprache” (Langenscheid, München, 2014) as well as usage of slang lexemes in electronic versions of the articles of weekly newspaper “Die Zeit” over the last four years.
