Abstract

The article is devoted to the reconstruction of the motivational basis of ethno-cultural behaviour patterns of the English and Ukrainians by the disclosure of internal and external forms and figurative meaning of the concept “money” as a key word of stereotyped idiomatic formulae. Having reconstructed some ethnocultural autostereotypes of the English and Ukrainians, which are fixed in the figurative semantics of phraseology, it was concluded that the English and Ukrainian
phraseological thesaurus reflects to the greatest extent the characteristics of the ethnic mentality of the English and Ukrainians, which developed under the influence of extralinguistic factors. Ethnocultural idiomatic nominations of English and Ukrainian behaviour show an ambivalent notions about money and the behaviour of the English and Ukrainians as representatives of their own linguocultures.
