TRANSLATION OF INDIVIDUAL AUTHOR’S LEXICAL INNOVATIONS AS DECODING OF CONCEPTUAL INFORMATION (A CASE STUDY OF OF P. TYCHYNA’S POETRY)
Abstract
The article focuses on the results of the study of lexical innovations in the original of P. Tychyna’s poetry and its English translation. According to the author, the use of new words is due to cognitive reasons, which ultimately passes into the author’s plan, which the translator needs to decode. It is confirmed that the use of author’s poetic neologisms and occasionalisms deepens the theory of the text, while the translation tactics contribute to the development of lexical vocabulary.
The nominative space in P. Tychyna’s poetry is represented by various parts of speech, among which the author analyzes nouns, adjectives and verbs. Taking into account the fact that the neologisms of P. Tychyna have an unusual internal expression, the translator has to show creativity, which reveals in the frequent formation and use of lexical innovations, in which socially meaningful conceptual meanings and various spectacular reactions to the surrounding reality are fixed.
The author investigates the mobility and semantic capacity of individual author’s innovations, which have an evaluative connotation, which provides the opportunity to build the expressive figurative images, but they present the considerable difficulties for translation. The very specific nature of innovative formations in the poetic text greatly complicates its perception, since it requires readers to attract the poetic reception and professionalism of a translator. The translation is also complicated by P. Tychyna’s innovative approach to word-formation.
The material of the research showed that the English translations by M. Naydan and S. Komarnycki are full reproductions of P. Tychyna’s poetic images, but not quite accurate in the aspect of the transfer of neologisms and occasionalisms, which in most cases are replaced by other lexical-stylistic means.
