SECONDARY MACRO-URBAN NOMUNATIONS OF NEW YORK CITY
Abstract
The article is dedicated to the macro-urban nominate study within the lexical semantic macro-urban field of New York City. It deals with the examination of the New York City secondary names, i.e. unofficial macro-urban nominates of one of the largest cities in the world. Secondary names of New York City have a wide associative-content base that allows you to identify the main associative-thematic groups. They create whole associative-axiological fields, which are united by associative-semantic features. These features indicate the geographical location of the city, its climatic features, cultural, religious and scientific and educational significance, the direction of professional activity of its inhabitants and its importance as a political and economic centre of life, features of the urban landscape, gender and ethnic composition of the city, emblems, etc. New York City secondary names include both secondary unofficial placenames and appellation, mixed hybrid appellate and onymic complexes. The research showed that New York City field of secondary names has a wide stylistic range, there are both colloquial, including even humiliating, and literary elements. In addition, the research found that New York City unofficial macro-urban nominate versatility of the associativeaxiological field has functional orientation, which allows it to perform various characterological functions. Thus, New York City image is formed thanks to the compositional and linguistic means used by the authors, as well as a comprehensive way of creating New York City image on the basis of mythopoetic and cultural-historical factors. Reclamation or pejorative assessments of the city, used by authors in many cases are determined by the individual and psychological characteristics of the subject observation and description (narrator or character), his mood, lifestyle and others. The presence of individual associations can consist of both individual-author and individual-character associations. The first ones (individual-author) belong to the writer, who expresses his idea of the city directly on his own behalf, without hiding behind the opinions and thoughts of his characters, while the individual-character associations belong to the protagonists of the works. Sometimes both the first and second associative rows may include common elements, this happens when the associative-image row belongs to the narrator, whose image is very close to the individual characteristics of the writer. Thus, the multisided picture of the city in the literary text is created by associative and imaginative rows of macro-urban nominates, which the author expresses through his hero, narrator or both. The research is carried out on the material of different artistic and publicistic texts in Romance languages and the languages of Germanic and Slavic groups.
