LEXICOGRAPHICAL INTERPRETATION OF UKRAINIAN RESISTANCE FOLKLORE (BASED ON ANECDOTES FROM 2022–2023)

Keywords: lexicography, folklore, language of folklore, Dictionary of the Language of Folklore, anecdote.

Abstract

The language of folklore is one of the most important components of the national language, which undoubtedly requires special lexicographic representation. The joke remains one of the most popular genres of Ukrainian folklore today. It is worth noting that this genre of folk art, unlike memes, photojabs and other manifestations of contemporary collective creativity, retains all the classic features of a folklore text. The form of its existence does not go beyond the oral folk tradition, although it can not only be transmitted live – from one interlocutor to another – but also broadcast through modern means of communication, including in the form of a certain textual fixation. However, the anecdote remains anonymous, multivariate, and based on an established tradition. Its prevalence, popularity and longevity are due, on the one hand, to its ability to respond quickly to changes in society and thus always be relevant for a certain time, and, on the other hand, to its adaptive and therapeutic potential. In crisis situations, it is humour that can significantly help to overcome anxiety and stress. An anecdote, being one of the manifestations of the humorous principle, also helps people to adapt to the current extreme conditions. The article presents samples of a dictionary description of the vocabulary present in the texts of anecdotes from the period of Ukrainian resistance to the full-scale Russian aggression of 2022-2023. The lexicographic interpretation of the language elements present in the anecdote of the corresponding period is selective. Not all linguistic elements have been subjected to lexicography, but only those that were actively used in anecdotes during the period of Russia's full-scale military invasion of Ukraine. We record mainly those verbal elements that convey the current realities of the socio-political life of Ukrainians. We have also included proper names, including the names of various well-known political and other figures, which were actively used in anecdotes of this period. The recording of contemporary folklore texts will allow us to track the dynamics of the development of Ukrainian oral folk art. In addition, the language of folk anecdote, as well as the language of folklore in general, requires a special lexicographic interpretation, which may well result in significant vocabulary developments for various fields of humanitarian knowledge.
