EUROPEAN DISPOSITIF IN UKRAINIAN MEDIA DISCOURSE DURING 2022: FORMAL DIMENSION
Abstract
The research analyzes the manifestation of the European dispositif in the Ukrainian-language media discoursethroughout 2022, with a focus on its formal dimension. Utilizing the theoretical principles of Michel Foucault, the analysisreveals the interaction of power, knowledge, and discourse, exploring how European values, perceptions, and attitudestowards issues in Ukraine are conveyed by Ukrainian media. In the process of analyzing the Twitter platform's database, the image of Europe as a socio-political partner for Ukraine is modeled. The research includes a comprehensive approach, combining quantitative and qualitative analyses of selected tweets, particularly those belonging to the media organization"Ukrainska Pravda," a subsidiary of "European Pravda." Discourse analysis methods, coupled with statistical summaries, demonstrate the results of studying the formal indicators of information presentation in the "European Pravda" media space on Twitter and its website. Ukrainian media portrays Europe as a means of European influence on information consumers, but through the lens of Ukraine's national instruments of power. Michel Foucault's theory explains the vulnerabilityof the national power apparatus and Europe, especially in the context of the military conflict. The article discusses howknowledge, discourse, and institutions manipulate the reconstruction or creation of understanding how European societyand authorities respond to the situation in Ukraine and how it demonstrates their position in conflict conditions. The dataclearly indicate the absence of a unified opinion in Europe regarding the Ukrainian-Russian conflict from January 1, 2022,to May 15, 2022. Politicians from Ukraine, Russia, and Germany lead the discussion in the media, with active participantsin addressing conflict issues such as Poland, the Baltic countries, and Hungary expressing polarized ideas regardingsupport for Ukraine. Europe serves as a mediator in the discussion between the main conflict participants and is perceivedas a significant political and economic partner for Ukraine. The future research prospects on the topic of the "dispositif"of Europe in national media seem to focus on the content aspect. The attention in studying the issue may concentrate ona deep exploration of the articles referenced in the selected tweets to enhance understanding and modeling of the "dispositif"within the Ukrainian media landscape.
