MULTIFUNCTIONALITY OF WAR-RELATED COLLOCATIONS IN THE WAR LANGUAGE
Abstract
The study is devoted to the elaboration of the functions of war-related collocations (politically evaluative pragmatisms) in official business, journalistic and artistic discourse, which relay the idea of the war language internal potential. Linguistic units are of interest in various aspects - both from the point of view of understanding military, anti-terrorist, peacekeeping actions and armed struggle in general, and in terms of expressing lexical and semantic features inherent in a certain class of words in the process of information exchange between public authorities, military command, military administrations, local governments, and international partners and organizations that ensure coordination of actions, timely response to threats and strategic planning. The analysis of the linguistic parameters of the text makes it possible to structure the newly formed meanings, and at the same time actualizes the semiosphere, which gives the key to defining the military and political phenomenon that is the Russian-Ukrainian war. The novelty of the study is to establish the concept of war-related collocations and their functional potential in the language of war. Within the framework of the stylistic analysis, the subject of the study is the language means of the theory of operational art (operations and combat), the theory of tactics (preparation and conduct of combat) and the theory of strategies (command and control of troops). To identify and systematize war-related collocations, we used general scientific methods of observation and description of linguistic phenomena, stylistic analysis with the use of internal interpretation techniques. In our opinion, the verbalization of military-political system elements is based on military rhetoric, which is formed as a result of a long, constantly reproduced interaction between language and military reality in covering the combat experience of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the experience of civilians'“survival”during massive rocket attacks. We see the prospects for further research in a thorough study of war-related collocations, i.e., the identification of mathematical and statistical patterns of collocations based on paradigmatic transformation. The analysis of such linguistic facts has different intentions in the methodological aspect: it will emphasize the communicative and cognitive nature of linguistic units; it will reveal the linguistic nature of the means of linguopolitical nomination.
